RETURN OF VICTORY – SNIPPET 1

UNEDITED

RETURN OF VICTORYValerie had never realized that being alone with her thoughts would be so cathartic, but sailing across the Atlantic by herself certainly provided that opportunity. After her coms device went on the fritz halfway across, she was left staring out at the darkness to the west. She just wished the airship would hurry the hell up so she could get to New York before war broke out.

A part of her still believed there would be a way to mitigate this fire that her friends had started, but the rest of her thought that a final war to end it all wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Pull out all the rats and cut off their heads, so that they and the disease they had brought upon the lands would be gone once and for all.

That wasn’t all she thought about, though, as she sailed. She thought about how she had almost returned to the military compound where she was raised, how she could have very easily touched down in Old Paris and visited her old haunts, searching out clues to her life before she was turned into a vampire. Now that those thoughts were in the past, she realized what a trap such actions would have been. Could she ever have escaped? Even if she had physically departed, she was certain she wouldn’t have left mentally.

It was time to accept that she was a new person, that she had moved on. (more…)

SHIFTING DIMENSIONS – SNIPPET 2

This is the first snippet from my new story in SHIFTING DIMENSIONS – only $0.99 and on KU!

Shifting DimensionsHANGMAN’S LOOP, by L.O. Addison

Kaylin braced her hands against the walls of the tiny escape pod, struggling to choke back her claustrophobia. The pod hurtled forward, heading straight for the swirling smoke of the time-travel portal.

Then it was gone. The Syndicate ship, the escape pod, the portal–all of it. In its place was a black abyss that swallowed all light and matter. Weightlessness consumed her body, but somehow, she could still sense motion tugging her through the nothingness.

The first time she’d experienced this, she’d thought for sure she was dead. But now she knew better–she wasn’t travelling to an afterlife; she was travelling through time. Although there was no way of knowing where or when she’d end up this time. In their desperate escape from the doomed ship, no one had been able to program in a destination.

The weightlessness ended as abruptly as it’d started. Light blinded her, and gravity yanked at her stomach. The abyss vanished, and she materialized back in reality, sitting on a bed in the corner of a room.

No. Not just any room. It was her room, in her old apartment, back at her childhood home in Cleveland. Kaylin hardly dared to breathe, terrified that the slightest movement would send her wheeling back into the abyss of the time-travel portal. She moved only her eyes as she took in her surroundings.  (more…)

SHIFTING DIMENSIONS – SNIPPET 1

This is the first snippet from my new story in SHIFTING DIMENSIONS – only $0.99 and on KU!

Shifting DimensionsGiovanni remembered the jolt that had come, and the way the motion of time travel was unlike anything he had ever felt. Eyes closed, he imagined colors swirling, space imploding—he imagined it all, and then the ship slammed to a stop…or so he thought.

The notion that he was still on the ship vanished the second his nostrils took in the scent of jungle air, fresh from a recent rain. A damp back confirmed this, and when he opened his eyes he saw large leaves overhead, blocking out the moonlight. He wasn’t strapped into the time ship, he was lying on his back on the moist jungle floor.

Had it worked?

Groaning in pain, he pushed himself up and glanced around, hoping to spot Quinn or the others.

From what he could tell, he was alone in the jungle…nothing more. But as he stood and moved to the edge of the small hill he found himself on, he pushed leaves aside and caught his breath—the mountain where it had all started, where he had been with Quinn, Milo, and the others, was right in front of him, completely intact. Lights shone from where Marines were at work, preparing the defense. The Syndicate had destroyed all that, which meant they had gone back to nearly a year before, to the days before the invasion.

Why now? Why here? (more…)

SHADES OF GLORY – SNIPPET 3

UNEDITED

Shades of Glory

“Remnant!” a voice shouted, then repeated itself again, “Remnant nearby, and they’re attacking a group led by Laird Lokane!”

Alastar sat up, confused, head hurting from an uneasy sleep, and then registered that it was Kia shouting as she ran past a barely alert guard. Several around the camp were rousing, all turning with confusion, and he glanced around, worried about his sister—only to find her curled up against Donnon.

Estair hadn’t been able to sleep near Alastar, much to his annoyance. Laird Summers had a protective watch over her, and still hadn’t warmed to the idea of her being friendly with a paladin.

Others were murmuring about the disturbance, some brushing her off as a silly girl, but Alastar knew better. Donnon and Rhona knew better. The three were at her side in an instant.

“What is it?” Donnon asked his daughter.

She repeated herself, saying she had seen the remnant out there and come across a man who said he was with Laird Lokane. (more…)

SHADES OF GLORY – SNIPPET 2

UNEDITED

Shades of GloryAn early morning breeze tickled Kia’s nose, but when she woke she realized that hadn’t been what got her attention. In spite of the calming effect of the otherwise cool morning air and the way the sunlight was scattered across the forest floor with trickles of orange and red seeping in from the sunrise, her heart was pounding and her palms were clammy.

She heard a noise, a clang of metal on metal, then a distant, gravel-crunching voice.

She sat up and saw that the others in camp were still sleeping. Laird Summers and his men had set up a perimeter with guards keeping watch, though she noticed one who was close to nodding off.

It was easy to sneak past him. She scampered up into one of the trees and used it to move through the sky like a squirrel until she dropped down out of sight of the guards and made a run for it.

This might not be worth waking the others for. It might have just been her imagination, or some local boys out for an early morning training session, though as far as she knew, there weren’t any villages in this area.

Again with the gravelly voice.

Trees blocked much of her view ahead, along with gullies and fissures where old riverbeds had dried out here or earthquakes had torn apart the ground there.

She rounded a group of blackberry bushes that grew over some rocks, pausing to grab a couple of the blackberries for an early breakfast, and immediately threw herself backward into a prone position.

Not quite sure she had seen what she thought she had, she inched forward on her elbows and peeked around the rock again. (more…)

SHADES OF GLORY – SNIPPET 1

UNEDITED (SHADES OF GLORY IS BOOK 3 IN THE HIDDEN MAGIC CHRONICLES)

Shades of GloryRhona strode forward, always pressing on, refusing to be the one to slow down the group. What had been a small group consisting of her brother and their companions plus the survivors they had found on Sair Talem had now grown to nearly one hundred.

They had the clan folk who had made it back to the main group, along with Laird Summers and his warriors. Plus, more warriors and clansfolk were likely out there still and just hadn’t found the main group…at least she hoped so.

Donnon walked beside her and his daughter Kia kept close to them. He still had that wild look in his eyes that he got every time his daughter was in danger. It didn’t matter that the girl was probably more powerful than he was, at least as far as her magic was concerned. Rhona had never had a child of her own, so she knew she couldn’t fully understand. The best she could do was think back to a small kitten that had wandered into the castle once when she was in her early teens. She had insisted it was hers, thought of it like another member of her family since her brother was always too busy training. (more…)

For Cammie and Royland, it also means bringing a boy to his home, and ensuring he has a safe place to live.

Meanwhile, Diego and Sgt. Garcia begin their journey to secure their side of America. While victory is close at hand, theirs is a world where cutting off hands seems just as likely as shaking them. Will they be able to convince the locals peace is worth having?
Defending the Lost is part of The Kurtherian Gambit Universe.

Here are a couple of reviews so far 🙂

Well this story was definitely a bit of a wild ride. Val goes on a cruise to strange lands meets weird people and delivers a boat load of Justice. Looks like it will now be a bit of a wait until the next book😎 looking forward to reading the next book.
Great continuation of the story. We find out more of the continued growth of our favorite characters and some of the personal worries that are on their mind especially our tough Werewolf Cammie. I think this book dives into the emotional growth of a lot of the main characters and where they might be headed. Wonderful learning more about how earth continued after the WWDE as it struggles to come back during the time that BA is away. If you haven’t read the previous books grab them and have a Valarie and friends fest over the long weekend.

SAVED BY VALOR – SNIPPET 3

UNEDITED (This is book 7. Grab Books 1-6 on Amazon)
SAVED BY VALORHow the hell everyone had survived that, she had no clue. For what seemed like an eternity she just laid there, watching the rain. When it finally started to let up and rays of sunlight hit the airship’s balloon, she sat up and scanned the deck.

The ship was damn full, half of them at work, half just trying to get out of the way.

They saw her sitting up, and started to cheer.

“Enough of that,” she shouted, leaping up and pulling at her clothes, as if she could brush the water away. “You all did it.”

“But we lost the ship,” Reems admitted morosely.

She looked back at the storm in the distance. With her vampire sight, she was just able to see the shape of her ship where it had landed on the side of a hill, not far from the coastline.

For a long moment, nobody spoke. It as likely they were all waiting for someone, likely Valerie, to explode. This shouldn’t have happened. One little storm, and they lost their shit. (more…)

Scifi Fantasy with Magic, Weres, and Vampires

I love scifi fantasy (Science Fiction with a Fantasy element, or something that makes it different from the normal space opera out there). What am I talking about? Stuff like Star Wars – those Jedi do magic. Admit it.

So I wanted to share some recent scifi books I’ve checked out / think are awesome, BECAUSE of these other elements. Also, I’ve included links to hear interviews with each of these authors!

1. Michael Anderle’s KURTHERIAN GAMBIT

2. Glynn Stewart’s STARSHIP’S MAGE

3.  Michael-Scott Earle’s STAR JUSTICE

4. J.A. Cipriano’s WITCHING ON A STARSHIP

5. Brandon Barr’s SONG OF THE WORLDS

COMING SOON:

6. Chris Fox’s MAGICTECH CHRONICLES

7. ME! (VARIOUS)

I have some fun ones out and more to come soon. If you’re interested in time travel and magic in a Space Marine series, check out the Syndicate War books (with George Mahaffey and Kyle Noe). My vampire and Were series, Reclaiming honor, is about to go to space, AND I’m launching a solo series in September that is scifi magic, probably closest to Glynn Stewart’s scifi fantasy above.
