SHADES OF GLORY – SNIPPET 2

UNEDITED

Shades of GloryAn early morning breeze tickled Kia’s nose, but when she woke she realized that hadn’t been what got her attention. In spite of the calming effect of the otherwise cool morning air and the way the sunlight was scattered across the forest floor with trickles of orange and red seeping in from the sunrise, her heart was pounding and her palms were clammy.

She heard a noise, a clang of metal on metal, then a distant, gravel-crunching voice.

She sat up and saw that the others in camp were still sleeping. Laird Summers and his men had set up a perimeter with guards keeping watch, though she noticed one who was close to nodding off.

It was easy to sneak past him. She scampered up into one of the trees and used it to move through the sky like a squirrel until she dropped down out of sight of the guards and made a run for it.

This might not be worth waking the others for. It might have just been her imagination, or some local boys out for an early morning training session, though as far as she knew, there weren’t any villages in this area.

Again with the gravelly voice.

Trees blocked much of her view ahead, along with gullies and fissures where old riverbeds had dried out here or earthquakes had torn apart the ground there.

She rounded a group of blackberry bushes that grew over some rocks, pausing to grab a couple of the blackberries for an early breakfast, and immediately threw herself backward into a prone position.

Not quite sure she had seen what she thought she had, she inched forward on her elbows and peeked around the rock again. (more…)

saved by valorIt’s here! Book 7 in the Reclaiming Honor series. Enjoy!

A dream of peace. A hand of justice. A time for closure.

Valerie has found her way full circle, heading back to Europe, where it all began. New enemies await, calling themselves The Gods, and the journey to put an end to the atlantic pirate problem means dealing with the local trouble makers as well as these false gods.

For Cammie and Royland, it also means bringing a boy to his home, and ensuring he has a safe place to live.

Meanwhile, Diego and Sgt. Garcia begin their journey to secure their side of America. While victory is close at hand, theirs is a world where cutting off hands seems just as likely as shaking them. Will they be able to convince the locals peace is worth having?
Defending the Lost is part of The Kurtherian Gambit Universe.

Here are a couple of reviews so far 🙂

Well this story was definitely a bit of a wild ride. Val goes on a cruise to strange lands meets weird people and delivers a boat load of Justice. Looks like it will now be a bit of a wait until the next book😎 looking forward to reading the next book.
Great continuation of the story. We find out more of the continued growth of our favorite characters and some of the personal worries that are on their mind especially our tough Werewolf Cammie. I think this book dives into the emotional growth of a lot of the main characters and where they might be headed. Wonderful learning more about how earth continued after the WWDE as it struggles to come back during the time that BA is away. If you haven’t read the previous books grab them and have a Valarie and friends fest over the long weekend.

SAVED BY VALORHow the hell everyone had survived that, she had no clue. For what seemed like an eternity she just laid there, watching the rain. When it finally started to let up and rays of sunlight hit the airship’s balloon, she sat up and scanned the deck.

The ship was damn full, half of them at work, half just trying to get out of the way.

They saw her sitting up, and started to cheer.

“Enough of that,” she shouted, leaping up and pulling at her clothes, as if she could brush the water away. “You all did it.”

“But we lost the ship,” Reems admitted morosely.

She looked back at the storm in the distance. With her vampire sight, she was just able to see the shape of her ship where it had landed on the side of a hill, not far from the coastline.

For a long moment, nobody spoke. It as likely they were all waiting for someone, likely Valerie, to explode. This shouldn’t have happened. One little storm, and they lost their shit. (more…)

SAVED BY VALOROver the Atlantic

Valerie’s ship had been struck and was, in all likelihood, about to be out of commission. But while the ship had grown on her, especially with the great logo her crew had carved for her on its side, the lives of the men and women sailing her were her responsibility.

She ran over to Captain Reems, chest pounding. “Where do you need me?”

“We don’t have a chance with that ship above us like that. Don’t suppose they have one of those comm devices or something?”

“You just brought me the one.” She looked up, noting the angle of the balloon and the trajectory of their ship. She sure hoped she wasn’t going to regret this. “Don’t worry, I have an idea.”

His eyes followed hers, then narrowed. “You can’t possibly be serious?”

“It’s our only chance, right?”

For a moment his lips twitched as if he wanted to argue, but finally he nodded. “Please don’t mess this up.” (more…)

SAVED BY VALOR

Over the Atlantic

Flying in an air ship back to Europe was definitely something Valerie never thought she would be doing. Yet, here she was, on a ship with some of her closest friends. Their mission: to bring a boy back to his family and see what they could do about a group of bandits who had been taking people from their homes and collaborating with the pirates of Toro.

The trip was infinitely more glorious than the journey that had brought her to New York. Every time she passed the cargo hold, she remembered hiding out behind crates in that other ship with Sandra. That’s where they had met Diego, the Werecat who had since stolen Sandra’s heart. Soon they would be a family, and Sandra had threatened Valerie to not miss the baby’s birth.

She planned on returning in time, but it wasn’t exactly like she could rely on plans in this crazy world. (more…)

Defending the LostPrince Edward Island

Cammie had been on the island for a few days now, but she still felt her nerves act up when she had to go out and talk to the people. She lingered in the doorway, looking back at Royland and considering how glad she was that he was here with her.

In another version of their reality, one where Valerie would have tasked her alone to take charge of this former pirate group, she would likely have torn them all to shreds by now. Well, maybe not all of them, but the ones who looked at her funny. And that had been a damn lot of them.

“Do you have to go?” Royland asked from the table where he sat looking out at the sunlight sparkling on the water. She knew he longed to walk outside freely during the day, but she would trade that for his speed and power any time.

“It’s our duty now, isn’t it?” she replied. “They say the guy was caught breaking into her house with a knife in his hands.”

“But we don’t know who to trust here.”

She nodded. “That’s the role we’ve stepped into. These people have been told they need to rob and steal to survive, and that murder is okay if it helps you get ahead.”

“Are we any different?” (more…)
